ANSO 4253 Every Campus a Refuge

(3 hours) Quad Three
Each year, millions of people are forced to flee their homes due to conflict, violence, and threats to personal safety, displacing people around the globe. Students will learn about forced displacement, migration, and refugee resettlement through classroom instruction and service learning. Working with a local refugee resettlement agency, students assist newcomers to Tulsa, including working with newcomers living on campus through the Every Campus A Refuge (ECAR) Program. Coursework is undertaken through a trauma-informed approach and the course involves working directly with newcomers. Thus, it requires cultural sensitivity, compassion, and confidentiality. Flexibility to work outside of class time, potentially on evenings and weekends, is required.
