ANSO 4233 Medical Social Sciences (3 hours) Quad Three Medical Social Sciences is a subfield of anthropology that studies the role of culture and society in illness and healing. An introduction to the social scientific study of health, illness, and medicine, incorporating basic principles of medical anthropology and medical sociology. How are social factors implicated in body function and dysfunction? What is the relationship between poverty and illness, both infectious and chronic? and how can we reform American medical practice to address social and cultural diversity better? Prerequisite: ANSO 2043 or SOC 1033 with a grade of C or higher or permission of instructors.
